There are four things to look for when reading the Bible:

1.      The obvious sense. Some things do not need an interpretation. Ask yourself, “What was God saying to the people at that time?” This parable needed an interpretation, so Jesus explained it to the disciples.

2.      The message for today. The Bible is more than a history book. It is a living document designed by Almighty God to make a difference in how we live. Ask the Holy Spirit to apply it to your life.

3.      A hidden message. You may not fully understand what is going on, but God is working in your heart.

“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any doubled-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
